TOZO NC3 Hybrid ANC Earbuds Review: Six Tip Sizes, Split Battery Figures and a Disputed IPX8 Claim

  • Hybrid active noise cancellation with a claimed 45dB reduction depth, a TOZO figure with no test standard named.
  • Battery is published in both states: 13 hours per charge and 55 hours total with cancellation off, dropping to 9.5 and 40 with it on.
  • Six pairs of ear caps from XS to XXL, the widest fit range in this part of the catalog.
  • IPX8 is claimed in the title while the same bullet describes only water and sweat resistance, and the specification field gives no code.
  • Audio latency is published at 45 milliseconds, but no Bluetooth codec, multipoint or wear detection is stated.

Description

Where the NC3 sits in TOZO’s range

The TOZO NC3, item T11141, is a hybrid active noise cancelling true wireless earbud aimed at commuters who want a long battery, an app with real equalizer control and a wide fit kit without paying flagship money. Feedback is good at 4.6 out of 5 across 3,243 ratings, with Amazon placing it around 281st in Electronics and 56th in earbud and in ear headphones.

It sits close to the TOZO NC9 in both name and feature set, and the two are easy to confuse. Our TOZO NC9 review covers the sibling, which publishes a longer battery total and a different driver size. Both ship six pairs of ear tips and both claim the same 45dB cancellation depth. If you are choosing between them, battery and driver size are the differences to check.

Connection, and the number TOZO does publish

Bluetooth 5.3 is stated, with a range field of 20 meters. The version number is not a sound quality figure; it governs connection stability, power behavior and support for newer standards. TOZO describes the connection as supporting low latency and, unusually for this bracket, backs it with a figure: audio latency of 45 milliseconds in the structured data. That is a real specification and worth crediting. Forty five milliseconds is low enough that video should look synchronized and high enough that competitive gaming would still feel slightly behind. If low latency is the priority, a product with a dedicated 2.4GHz dongle is still the better answer.

No codec is named

No Bluetooth audio codec appears anywhere on this listing. Not SBC, not AAC, not aptX, not LDAC. SBC is present by definition on any stereo Bluetooth device, but nothing beyond that is confirmed. That means there is no published basis for a high resolution or lossless claim, and TOZO does not make one directly here, which is to its credit given how freely that language is used elsewhere in this catalog.

Multipoint is not mentioned, so do not assume the buds will hold a phone and a laptop at once. Wear detection is not mentioned either. What is present is the TOZO app, offering 32 equalizer presets plus adjustable cancellation modes, which is a genuine feature at this price and the main reason to install it.

Battery, published in both states

TOZO gives four figures and separates them properly. With cancellation off, the buds run 13 hours on a single charge and the package delivers 55 hours in total with the case. With cancellation on, that drops to 9.5 hours in the buds and 40 hours in total. Publishing both states is the honest way to do it, because active cancellation always costs runtime and most brands quote only the flattering number.

Plan around 9.5 hours if you intend to run cancellation continuously, which is presumably why you are looking at this model. The 55 hour figure in the title is a total across roughly four case refills, not a session length. The case holds a 500mAh cell, weighs 31.2 grams, recharges in a quoted 1.5 hours, and carries an LED display. Note that the cable supplied is USB A to USB C rather than C to C, which matters if every charger you own is USB-C only.

The structured fields then muddle it by putting 55 hours in both the battery life row and the carrying case row. Neither is the bud runtime. Go by the bullets, which are clear.

Fit, seal and a water rating that overstates itself

The fit kit is the standout. Six pairs of ear caps ship in the box, sized XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL. That is the widest range in this part of the catalog and it matters more than any acoustic claim, because seal decides perceived bass on a sealed earbud and it also sets the ceiling on what the cancellation can achieve, since active processing works on top of whatever passive isolation the tip provides. If a standard medium tip has never fitted you properly, six sizes is a real reason to look here.

The driver is published in the structured data at 12 millimeters, though the bullets never mention it. Sensitivity is 100 dB and impedance is 32 ohms, both plausible. The frequency response field reads “20 KHz” as a single value, which is not a response specification, while a separate frequency range field gives 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz with no tolerance figure attached.

The water rating is where the page overreaches. The title and a bullet both claim IPX8, which is the deepest immersion tier, meaning continuous submersion beyond one meter under conditions the manufacturer defines. The same bullet then describes the protection as making the buds resistant to water and sweat and suitable for workouts and daily use. That is splash and sweat protection, which IPX4 covers, not immersion. The structured field says only “Waterproof” with no code at all. Take the described protection rather than the code, keep these out of the pool, and remember that no IP rating covers seawater, chlorinated water or pressurized water, and that seals degrade with age.

Noise cancellation, and a list of uses we would rule out

TOZO claims a hybrid system with a noise reduction depth of up to 45dB. That figure comes from TOZO, no test standard is named and no frequency band is specified, so attribute it rather than treating it as measured. Active cancellation genuinely works on constant low frequency sound such as subway rumble, engine drone and ventilation, and it works considerably less well on speech and on sudden noise. No earbud makes a street silent, and a single decibel headline does not describe that difference.

A transparency mode is included, and TOZO frames it as providing security for your outdoor activities. That framing needs pushing back on. A transparency mode reconstructs your surroundings through microphones with processing delay and a directional character that does not match natural hearing. The recommended uses field goes further and lists cycling, motorcycling, skateboarding and snowboarding, and the specific uses field adds sleeping. This is a sealed, actively cancelling earbud and it is the wrong tool for any of the road going activities on that list. Do not use it where hearing traffic is a safety requirement. If awareness while moving is what you need, our open fit headphone listings are the right category, where the design solves the problem rather than approximating it.

The junk fields, and the alternatives

The theme field reads “Animal / Anime / Cartoon / Fantasy / TV Series / Video Game / Sport / Music / Gaming / Motorcycling / Office Meetings”, which is clearly inherited from an unrelated category. “Number of Power Levels = 15” and “Number of USB 2 Ports = 1” are the same kind of contamination. The batteries field says lithium metal, a non rechargeable chemistry that cannot be what is inside. Item weight of 40.6 grams describes the case with the buds in it.

For the earlier TOZO hybrid cancelling model with a longer feedback history, see our TOZO NC2 review, and for a different approach from the same brand our TOZO T9 review. If you want documented codec support, multipoint and separately published cancellation on and off battery figures at a step up in price, our Soundcore Liberty 4 NC review is the better specified alternative. Broader options sit in our wireless earbud listings.

Buy or skip

Buy it if you want hybrid cancellation with a long battery, six ear tip sizes because standard tips have failed you, and a proper app equalizer at this price. Skip it if you need a named codec or multipoint. Skip it if you took the IPX8 code at face value and were planning to swim, because the same bullet only claims water and sweat resistance. Do not buy it for cycling or motorcycling regardless of what the recommended uses field says.
