Kurdene SP9i Ear Hook Wireless Earbuds Review, 16.1mm Drivers and Two Conflicting Bud Runtimes

  • The listing gives 12 hours per charge in the bullets and 6 hours in the attribute table, and only the 12 reconciles with the 60 hour total.
  • No IP code is published anywhere, only the phrase water resistant, on a product sold for running and workouts.
  • Controls are described as both a touch panel and separate physical buttons in the same bullet.
  • 16.1mm drivers, which is large for the format, though the tip seal decides how much low end actually arrives.
  • Three ear tip sizes, Bluetooth 5.3, no audio codec named and no active noise cancellation claimed.

Description

The Kurdene SP9i is a hooked sports earbud fitted with 16.1mm drivers, which is unusually large for the format, and ranked 290th in Electronics from 1,980 ratings. The listing publishes two different single charge runtimes that cannot both be right, describes its controls two contradictory ways, and gives no ingress protection code at all for a product sold on workouts. Those three gaps decide how much of the rest can be relied on.

Who this is for

Kurdene describes an over ear design where the bud rests on top of the ear held by a soft silicone hook, aimed at running, meetings and workouts. Three pairs of silicone tips ship in sizes S, M and L, alongside a fast charging case, a cable and the manual, so the contents list is complete.

The 16.1mm driver is the headline hardware. Most true wireless earbuds use drivers between 10mm and 14.2mm, so 16.1mm is at the large end and in principle moves more air, which is where the deep bass claim comes from. In practice a larger driver in an earbud only helps if the tip seals, because bass energy escapes through any gap regardless of how much the driver produces. The tips matter more than the driver size.

The Noise Control field reads Sound Isolation, so there is no active cancellation and Kurdene claims none. That is honest and it also means these remove ambient cues. The listing is aimed at running, and running near traffic with a sealing earbud is the wrong combination. An open design is the right category there, and our open ear headphone reviews cover it.

Connection, and what is not stated

Kurdene specifies Bluetooth 5.3 with a range of 33 feet in the bullets and 10 meters in the attribute table, which is the same distance in two units and a rare case of two entries agreeing. A newer Bluetooth version affects connection stability, power draw and profile support rather than sound quality, and the bullet’s claim of seamless audio and video sync is not backed by any published latency figure.

No audio codec is named anywhere on this listing. There is no SBC, AAC, aptX or LDAC statement, so SBC is the only transport that can be assumed and no high resolution reading is supportable. Multipoint, wear detection, transparency mode and app support are all unmentioned and should be treated as absent.

The battery figures that do not agree

The second bullet says up to 12 hours of continuous playtime on a single charge, with the case offering an additional 48 hours for a total of 60. The attribute table says Battery Life is 6 Hours.

Twelve and six are not the same number and there is no third source to break the tie. The arithmetic favors the bullet: 12 plus 48 is 60, which matches the total in the product title, while 6 plus 48 would be 54. So the most coherent reading is that the bud runtime is 12 hours and the attribute field is wrong. That is an inference rather than a statement, and 12 hours would be at the high end for a sealing earbud of this size, so a buyer should treat it as a best case at moderate volume and confirm before relying on it. No case capacity in milliamp hours is published, so the 48 hour reserve cannot be checked against the hardware. Charging time is given as 1 hour.

Controls described two ways

The fifth bullet is headed Intuitive Smart Touch Control and describes touch controls for music, calls and voice assistants. The same bullet then says there are separate multifunction and volume buttons on each earbud. Touch panels and physical buttons are different interfaces and a product does not usually have both mapped to the same functions.

This matters more on a sports earbud than it sounds. A capacitive touch panel responds to sweat, to rain and to the act of pushing a bud back into place, all of which produce accidental commands during exercise. Physical buttons require a deliberate press but push the bud further into your ear. Which one you get changes the daily experience, and this listing does not settle it. The attribute table sides with touch, listing Control Type, Control Method and Controller Type all as touch.

Fit, and no water rating at all

Three tip sizes plus the silicone hook is a sensible fit package, and working through all three matters because the seal is what lets the 16.1mm driver deliver anything at the low end.

On water there is nothing. The attribute table says Water Resistance Level: Water Resistant, and no IP code appears anywhere in the product title, the bullets or the attributes. Water resistant with no code published is a marketing word rather than a specification. For a product sold explicitly for workouts and running that is a real gap, because sweat is corrosive and the whole point of an ingress rating is to tell you whether the product survives it. The correct statement is that no rating is published, so assume light sweat and rain and assume nothing more. Do not shower or swim in them. No IP rating covers seawater, hot water or high pressure water in any case, and seals degrade with age. A competitor that states a code, such as the Rulefiss Q38 with its IPX7 claim, gives you something to plan around.

What the data gets wrong, and the alternatives

Three fields on this listing are worth flagging as import damage. The Frequency Range value reads 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz followed by the literal word partial in brackets, which is an annotation that has ended up inside the value and makes the whole field unusable. Cartoon Character reads SPORTS, a field inherited from an entirely unrelated product category, and Style reads SPORTS as well. Item Weight of 3.2 ounces describes the retail package rather than a bud, and no per bud weight is published anywhere. Ear Placement and Form Factor both read Over Ear, which describes a full sized headphone.

Usable figures are a 16.1mm dynamic driver, a 32 ohm impedance, Bluetooth 5.3 and a rank of 290th in Electronics and 56th in earbud and in ear headphones, on a listing first available in December 2024. Kurdene also sells the Kurdene S8 wireless earbuds through this catalog, which is a different model from the same brand and worth checking against if you are comparing by name. For other takes on the hooked shape, the Aptkdoe HD65 uses physical buttons and the Qecnato T12 covers the same bracket. The full group is in our wireless earbud reviews.

Who should buy it and who should not

Buy the SP9i if a large driver in a hooked sports shape appeals, if three tip sizes and a one hour charge time suit you, and if you are comfortable buying on a listing whose battery figure has to be inferred rather than read.

Do not plan around the 6 hour attribute field or the 12 hour bullet without confirming which is right. Do not assume any water protection, because no IP code is published anywhere on a product sold for workouts. And expect to discover whether the controls are touch or buttons after you have it, because the listing says both.
